Miller Creek School Board Service

During her eight years on the school board, Megan has focused on delivering an exceptional education for every student while maintaining rigorous fiscal responsibility for one of Marin County’s (and the state’s) lowest-funded districts.

Having dedicated thousands of hours to our schools, Megan brings the experience, balanced perspective, and proven track record needed to ensure continuous improvement across every classroom and to weather the challenges ahead. Megan would be honored to continue serving our community.

Key Achievements of the School Board during Megan's Term:

• Academic & Student Excellence: Miller Creek Middle School earned the state’s prestigious California Distinguished School award. The School Board preserved 8th-grade Algebra, expanded access for all learners, and saw our students and teachers win top countywide honors in academics, the arts, and athletics.
   

• Fiscal Responsibility: Saved taxpayers roughly $1,000,000 through strategic bond refinancing, cut deficit spending without eliminating key programmatic offerings, accessed state funding for wellness, and balanced lean budgets.
   

• Supporting Teachers & Staff: Provided competitive raises for our dedicated staff; joined the Marin County Middle School Athletic League, reducing administrative burdens on district staff; and ensured teacher voices are heard in district decision-making.
   

• Student Well-Being & Services: Expanded counseling to every school site, were among the first to access new state reimbursements for wellness, launched universal free meal programs, and preserved both our seven-period middle school schedule and our Transitional Kindergarten program.
   

• Pandemic Resilience: Navigated pandemic disruptions with daily active engagement, minimizing student learning loss.
   

• Technological Flexibility: Ensured 1-1 device access during the pandemic years, minimized student distraction by limiting personal device access during the school day, reduced and/or eliminated screen time during classes, and developed a district AI policy to ensure safe use of such tools as best-use practices evolve.

Leadership & Community Advocacy: Megan has represented our district across critical local and countywide bodies, including:

• District Committees: Policy Committee, Coordinating Council, District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC), and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee.
   

• County Leadership: Co-director of the County Efficiency & Effectiveness Committee; member of the Marin County Joint Legislative Action Committee (advocating with state leaders); and representative on the County-City-Schools Committee, collaborating on regional issues like housing and infrastructure.
